August blues

To think that just a few weeks ago I was singing the blues waiting for August to be over: the city was too deserted, stores were sealed shut, and everyone was away on vacation while I was stuck here working...
Well, now I'm singing a different tune- September is here and the Romans are back with a vengeance: cars are everywhere, I risk life & limb on a daily basis while crossing the street near my house, the supermarket is jammed with people who stand uncomfortably close to me in line (Why do they do this? It won't make the line go any faster... I've come up with a new technique to ward them off and create more space between us: I pretend I'm stretching my hamstrings. What can I say, I can't stand having strangers breathe down my neck).
Sigh, I miss August now...

There is nothing worse than standing in a grocery line and having someone being up close and personal. It happens here too. (Canada) and I hate it.

Ha you made me laugh. I don't know how many times at my local Standa, the older Italian ladies stand so close to me I swear they are trying to push me out of the line! Then they also complain loudly about the stranieri who are holding up the lines when they get to the checkout...clearly they don't think the stranieri understand any Italian!

I remember coughing loudly used to work. You get your own queue after about a 10 second rumbling cough.

The oldies love to push in at the supermarkets too. I don't let them...you just sought of stand with your arms on the convayer belt so they can not get past.

And I too am sick of all the traffic here not that the holidays are over! But then I am sick of Rome as a whole...

Ms. V- Wow, the Canadians do it too? I never would've imagined that... in US there is a strict unspoken rule on personal space.

Monika- Those old ladies are the worst, very pushy!

Brendan- I'll have to try the coughing technique, thanks! I bet this is one of the things you DON'T miss about the Boot.

Leanne- I hear you... I hear you...
