Is birth control covered? I don't think so because I remember this controversy (viagra is but birth control pills aren't) coming up during the election.
I work in the healthcare field and yes, it it crazy what is covered and what isn't. Birth control is usually covered. I know my insurance covers most of it. A lot of times it is the employers that decide what is covered and what isn't. Then there are state regulations. For example, fertility coverage is required in some states and in some it is not. Tricare/Champus covers some ridiculous things. If a soldiers wife goes to the doctor and says she's depressed because her husband is deployed or whatever the case, and she thinks the solution to her depression is getting a breast agumentation, they will approve it and pay for it. It's just crazy. There are many cases where a necessary transplant is not covered either. It's inhumane really. That's the sad state of healthcare affairs in this country.
My healthcare plan in the Us covers birth control pills but since they are brand name to copay is $30. yet the pills retail for $30 so whether I use the insurance or not I'm not saving a dime. Some medical supplies are covered but I'm sure it's a long bureacratic process to get those items covered. The insurance companies don't want to give up any $$$
My love affair with Rome began over 15 years ago when I moved here... and as often happens with love affairs, the honeymoon is over! This blog is all about my love/hate relationship with Rome and Italy.
