The joys of efficiency

I'm working in NYC for a few months on a gig and the general efficiency in the workplace here has blown me away. For example: every Friday morning my paycheck is on my desk by the time I arrive at work. No ifs, ands, or buts involved...
But wait, there's more! The office was going to be closed from December 24th- January 1st for the holidays so instead of making us wait until January 4th for our paycheck from the week before, we got double checks on December 21st.
WOW. I'm liking this!

Wow - so maybe the NYC gig will turn into something more permanent!

That paycheck thing is amazing. Why is it so difficult for Italian companies to pay their employees on time?

Boh, all my Italian companies pay me exactly on time, and very quickly. I've actually only had problems with a British company, but it might have been a fluke.

Well, looks like you're making a mental transition out of Italy and back to the States and I wish you the best this coming 2008 ;)

Hey Kata, very unlikely it'll become permanent since I'm working on events that come & go... but I may be able to fly back here more often to work on big shows/events! Who knows (=

Roam2rome- you seem to have found a parallel dimension in Italy because 90% of people I know complain about payments being late and/or never arriving! That's one of the biggest problems for us translators, (see posts by michellanea, Italian trivia, on the verge, etc). But props to you for finding a good paying company! No transition happening here- mental or physical, I'm just enjoying what I have while I have it, that's all.

Due to a dumb, childish comment left by an anonymous person insulting a fellow blogger, I've decided to limit comments to only registered people. It's too bad a few people ruin things for everyone.

That's nice that you're able to work in NYC for a while. I'm with roam2rome in that I always get paid on time and early if there are holidays.

Enjoy the rest of your stay!

Are you going to make it back to Rome?

Hey B,

Yep, I do *have* to go back to Rome for various reasons- personal & business. BUT, I'm really enjoying this bi-continental lifestyle. Now if only I had my own home in NYC.....

I've been enjoying a bi-country lifestyle between London and Rome (due to personal reasons, ie my SO is still there) for the past 4 months and I can't complain. It is really nice to visit for 3 days, get my fill of good food and wine, see some friends, and then be back in London by Monday. If you don't stay in Italy long enough for it to piss you off and it's not that bad!

I think it depends on the size of the company as well... I find that large companies try to keep their money in house as long as they can. I've done work for some fortune 500s and they are the WORST at paying on time. that's from a consultant side though, not sure about their employees. Joe
